Women's Basketball Outlasts Brockport, Advances to the SUNYAC Semifinals

GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's basketball team came away with a decisive victory over the visiting Brockport Golden Eagles, 67-61, on Tuesday night in the SUNYAC Quarterfinals. The Knights victory came after the team finished the regular season 18-7 overall and 13-5 against their SUNYAC rivals.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Knights got off to a slow start and trailed for the majority of the first quarter, but late three-pointers from Kelly McLaughlin and Mackenzie Reigle put the team ahead and allowed Geneseo to take a 19-12 lead into the second quarter.
  • Kiley Snow opened the second with a splash for the Knights, sinking the first of Geneseo's three shots from behind the arc in the quarter. The team was able to extend their lead to double digits behind some solid defense and went to the half up 34-23.
  • The Knights came out of the break and did not let off the gas with shots from Lauren Romito, Hannah Stockman and Maggie McGrane keeping them ahead 53-35 into the final quarter.
  • A layup by Taylor Hansen gave Geneseo a twenty-point lead early in the fourth, but with their backs against the wall Brockport mounted a large comeback attempt. Up by only four with less than two minutes left in the game, the Knights were energized by a huge block by Romito and then some late free-throws by the Knights widened the margin in their favor once again, as they defeated the Golden Eagles 67-61.
