Women's Basketball Falls Short in the SUNYAC Semifinals at New Paltz

GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's basketball team couldn't make it to the State University of New York Athletic Conference Championship game as they fell to New Paltz in the semifinals 76-59.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Hawks got off to a hot start as they jumped ahead 10-0 on the Knights at the 6:57 mark in the game. Junior Forward Kerry Dennin got the scoring started, then junior guard Kelly McLaughlin and freshman guard Maggie McGrane got involved to get the ball rolling.
  • Geneseo's offense struggled after New Paltz's early run, but was able to bounce back to tighten the Hawks lead to just 9 points with a score of 39-30 headed into the second half.  
  • The Hawks came out firing in the third quarter and dropped 24 points to take a commanding lead into the final 10 minutes. Geneseo's defense held strong in the fourth quarter, keeping the Hawks to 13 points, but couldn't bring the offense together to comeback from the deficit and fell, 76-59.

  • Dennin led Geneseo in scoring with 19 points, while McgLaughlin chipped in eight and senior forward Lauren Romito posted a team-high 16 rebounds.
  • The Knights struggled to maintain possession throughout the game, committing 18 turnovers compared to just 12 from New Paltz.
  • Geneseo finished the season 19-8, marking their 13th-straight season with a record over .500.
