Women's Basketball Rides Strong First Quarter to 46-37 Victory

GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's basketball team bounced back after a tough Friday night loss by defeating Oneonta, 46-37, on Saturday afternoon. The win improved the Knights to 17-6 overall and 12-4 in SUNYAC play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Geneseo was dominant in the first quarter, outscoring the Red Dragons 19-5. Kiley Snow opened the scoring with a three, then four points from Lauren Romito and a pair of free throws from Kerry Dennin made it a 9-0 advantage less than four minutes into the game.
  • Snow bookended the first quarter for the Knights, as she knocked down a buzzer beating three to cap off the 19-point quarter.
  • The Knights kept the momentum going in the second quarter, as baskets from Brooke Woodard and Romito helped the lead jump to as many as 19 points.
  • Oneonta continued to try and chip away at the large deficit, and was able to cut it to eight points at the end of the third quarteer, but Geneseo's defense held strong and wouldn't let them complete the comeback.

QUICK FACTS
  • Romito dropped a double-double in the game, recording 18 points and 10 rebounds, both team-high's. She also tallied three blocks.
  • Dennin and Hannah Stockman each chipped in seven points, while MacKenzie Reigle added seven rebounds.
  • The Knights have already secured a spot in the SUNYAC playoffs, and now hold a one-game advantage over the Red Dragons for the third seed.

WHAT'S NEXT
Geneseo will travel to Fredonia on Friday, Feb. 17 at 5:30 p.m. before returning home on Saturday for senior day against Cortland.
