FREDONIA, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo men's ice hockey team came up short on the road Saturday evening, as they fell to Fredonia, 3-2. The loss dropped the Knights to 16-6-2 on the season and 10-4-1 in the SUNYAC.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Neither team could find the back of the net in the first period, with senior goalkeeper Matt Petizian tallying six saves and the Knights offense putting up 10 shots on goal.
- The Blue Devils drew first blood, scoring one minute into the second period. Stefan Miklakos evened the score for the Knights a few minutes later, off assists from Tyson Gilmour and Matthew Doran.
- Fredonia was able to take back the lead before the end of the second period, and then made it a two-goal lead early in the third period.
- Jared Thomas cut the lead back to one goal with 12 minutes remaining in the third period, but Geneseo couldn't find the equalizing goal and fell 3-2.
QUICK FACTS
- Miklakos', the Knights leading goal scorer, netted his 13th goal of the season, while Thomas tallied his fifth.
- Geneseo out shot Fredonia, 36-18, and had the advantage in face offs.
- With one game remaining in the regular season, the Knights have 21 points and sit in third in the SUNYAC standings.
