GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo men's basketball team fell just short against Oneonta on Saturday, Feb. 11. Geneseo's overall record drops to 10-13, with a 7-9 SUNYAC record. The game stayed close and exciting throughout, but the Knights fell, 61-51, to the Red Dragons.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Knights and the Red Dragons went back and forth throughout the first half. Both teams shot almost exactly 40% from the field, and were just two apart in the rebound category. In the closing minutes, Oneonta pulled ahead 28-23 to end the period.Â
- Geneseo sank two three-pointers in the first half, courtesy of Harrison Dignan and Ethan St. Lucia. The duo also combined for a total of nine rebounds in the first.Â
- The Knights needed to come out strong in the second half, but were constantly trying to catch-up to the Red Dragons. Geneseo continued to put the pressure on, but struggled to sink the big buckets they needed.
- A deep shot from Cole Kattan brought the Knights in close towards the conclusion of the game, and Sebastian Pacheco narrowed it to seven points with clutch shooting from the line, but Oneonta was able to hold on for the 61-51 victory.
QUICK FACTS
- Dignan gathered up 9 rebounds, a new personal high for them this season. He also tied St. Lucia for most points with 11.
- Despite the loss, Geneseo still holds the sixth and final spot for the SUNYAC playoffs, holding a one-game lead over both Plattsburgh and Potsdam
