Women's Basketball Falls at New Paltz

GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's basketball team fell to New Paltz 67-37 on Friday night. The loss dropped the Knights to 16-6 overall and 11-4 in SUNYAC play.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • New Paltz came out of the gate clicking on offense, taking an 11-4 lead over Geneseo with under four minutes left in the first quarter. However, The Knights were able to make up some ground scoring six unanswered points, and came within one by the end of the quarter. 

  • Turnover trouble plagued the Knights in the second quarter as they fell down by six, leading to a 25-19 score at halftime. 

  • Geneseo turned up the pace on offense in the third quarter scoring 14 points, eight of which came at the hands of Kerry Dennin. The defense struggled though, allowing 29 in the period and New Paltz took 54-33 lead. 

  • The Knights could not mount the comeback despite late shots by Brooke Woodard and Madison Hoyt and ultimately fell to the Hawks 67-37.

QUICK FACTS

  • Kerry Dennin led the Knights in both points (10) and rebounds (9).

  • Geneseo shot better from the free-throw line (66.7%) than New Paltz (42.9%), while also securing more rebounds and blocks than their opponent.

Geneseo will visit Oneonta to face the Red Dragons tomorrow Saturday, Feb. 11 at 2 p.m.
