Men's Basketball Falls At Alfred

ALFRED, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo men's basketball team's late second half comeback against Alfred ended in heartbreak on Tuesday evening, as they fell on a last second three, 84-81. The Knights record dips to 4-4 overall on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Following an opening possession jump shot from Robert Pericolosi, the Saxons were able to hold the upper hand for the remainder of the first half. Alfred led by as many as eight points at multiple times during the first 20 minutes, but the Knights were able to keep it within reach and entered the second half down 42-37.
  • Geneseo earned the momentum early in the second half, going on a 9-4 run to tie the game, spurred by a three from Cole Kattan and an and-one from Josh Garelle.
  • The Saxons were once again able to pull away, leading by as many as 12 points in the second half, including a 10 point lead with under two minutes left to play. However, the Knights weren't going away and it was once again an and-one from Garelle that got a rally going. Then a pair of jumpers from Sebastian Pacheco and one from Justin Yearwood brought the score within two points and 14 seconds remaining.
  • Needing a big defensive play, Kattan came up with a steal on the press and then converted a layup to tie the game with four seconds left to play. Unfortunately, Alfred got the final say and knocked down a three with a second left.

QUICK FACTS:
  • Kattan led the team in rebounding and points, tallying 23 and seven, respectively.
  • Garelle also dropped 20 points, while Yearwood (15) and Pacheco (14) joined them in double digits.
  • Geneseo was dominant in the points off turnovers category, scoring 27 points while Alfred only converted 12 points off turnovers.

WHAT'S NEXT?
The Knights will wrap up their first semester of play at St. Lawrence on Saturday at 2 p.m.
