GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo men's basketball team picked up a big overtime victory against SUNYAC foe Oneonta on Saturday afternoon. The 78-74 win moved the Knights record on the season to 4-3 and 1-1 in conference action.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- After early back and forth action, a three from Michael Gentile and a layup from Josh Garelle helped put the Knights up 17-10 eight minutes into the first half.
- Geneseo went on to lead by as much as 12 points following a three from Raymond Grabowski, but a late run from the Red Dragons made it just a two point advantage for the Knights going to halftime.
- The second half saw multiple lead changes throughout, but the Knights appeared to be in control late with a six-point lead and just over two minutes remaining. However, Oneonta came up with a couple key stops and free throws down the stretch to force overtime at 66-66.
- After the Red Dragons got the first bucket in overtime, Cole Kattan had a big answer for the Knights with a three on the wing. Geneseo never relinquished the lead after that, as Sebastian Pacheco drained another three with the Knights up 71-70 and under two minutes left to play.
- Up by two points with 13 seconds left, Geneseo's defense came up clutch and sealed the victory on the final possession. Then a pair of free throws from Grabowski put away any chances of a miracle shot from Oneonta and the Knights won 78-74.
QUICK FACTS:
- Pacheco led all scorers in the game, dropping 24 points and securing the double-double with 11 rebounds.
- Gentile and Garelle each tallied double-digit points as well, tallying 13 and 10, respectively.
