Men's Basketball Stumbles In SUNYAC Opener To New Paltz

GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo men's basketball team fell to New Paltz in its SUNYAC opening contest on Friday evening by a score of 73-69. The Knights record falls to 3-3 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Hawks came out firing on offense, taking an early 12-4 lead. However, the Knights found their footing and went on a 15-0 scoring run that was jump started by a three from Cole Kattan.
  • Geneseo didn't relinquish the lead until under two minutes left to play when the Hawks were able to tie the game at 35-35. A pair of late baskets from both teams sent the game to the second half tied at 37-37.
  • Robert Pericolosi got the Knights off to a strong start in the second half, recording four straight points before a three from Kattan extended the lead to seven points in the first two minutes.
  • The back and forth style of play continued as New Paltz took a five point lead at 53-48, but six unanswered points from Josh Garelle quickly erased that deficit.
  • With 4:29 left in the game, a pair of free throws from Sebastian Pacheco put the Knights up by six at 67-61. Unfortunately, the Hawks went on the final run of the game and escaped with the 73-69 victory.

QUICK FACTS
  • Kattan led all scorers in the game with 22 points, while Garelle chipped in 14 and Pacheco and Pericolosi each added 10.
  • Kattan finished the game with a double-double, registering 12 rebounds. Pacheco tallied a team high five assists.

Geneseo will take on Oneonta tomorrow in Schrader Gym at 4 p.m.
