GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo men's basketball team defeated Alfred State on Wednesday, Nov.8. The Knights start the season with a win as they picked up the 83-72 victory over the Pioneers.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

•  The Knights returned to action at home to start the season, but Alfred State jumped out to a quick 8-3 lead over Geneseo. Sebastian Pacheco led the charge as Geneseo responded strongly to take the lead.
• Geneseo went on a 14-0 run at the halfway mark of the first half, led by Raymond Grabowski and Josh Garelle. The Knights used that momentum to close out the opening 20 minutes with a commanding 54-33 lead.
• In the second half, a layup from Robert Pericolosi gave the Knights their largest lead of the game at 79-51. Geneseo went on cruise control the rest of the way to close out their season opening victory by a score of 83-72.

QUICK FACTS:

• Sebastian Pacheco posted a double double for the Knights, dropping 19 points and 11 boards. He also tallied six assists and two steals.
• Cole Kattan and Josh Garelle each tallied 15 points, while Pericolosi joined them in double-digit points with 10.
• In the first half, the Knights shot 64.7 percent from the field, and finished the game at 51.5 percent from the field and 40 percent from behind the arc.

The Knights next game is Nov.11 when they will take on John Carroll University at the Oneonta Classic at 6 p.m.
