Box Score ONEONTA, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo men's basketball team fell to John Carroll University, 76-66, in their opening matchup of the Oneonta Classic on Friday night. This marks the Knights' first loss of the season as they dropped to 1-1 on the year.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Knights' offense started off hot as they took an early 9-0 lead less than three minutes into the game.
- The Blue Streaks were able to force their way back and came within one of tying the game midway through the first half.
- Layups by senior Cole Kattan, and freshmen Josh Garelle and Robert Perocolosi put the finishing touches on the first half of play for Geneseo as the two squads went into the break knotted up at 28.
- Early points from Kattan, Gareele, Perocolosi, and freshman Justin Yearwood kept the Knights within striking distance early in the second half.
- John Carroll's team then scored 13 unanswered points until senior Raymond Grabowski finally put points on the board for Geneseo with a jumper.
- Down by seven points with over four minutes left to play, the Knights attempted a comeback but a layup by Garelle and a made free throw by Yearwood were the only points they could come up with as they fell 76-66 to the Blue Streaks.
QUICK FACTS
- Garelle led the Knights with 18 points, while Kattan added another 16 in the game.
- Perocolosi added team-highs in rebounds (10), assists (5), blocks (1), and tied freshman Jackson Casey for the lead in steals with two, as well.
- The Knights finished the game with a 41.8% field goal percentage, and 31.3% three-point percentage.
