Women's Volleyball Concludes Regular Season With Five-Set Loss To RIT

GENESEO, N.Y. - The Geneseo women's volleyball team ended their regular season against RIT on Saturday, Nov. 4, who escaped with a 3-2 victory. Geneseo finishes the season at a 12-13 overall record.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The first set started in favor of Geneseo, as they took a fairly early 11-4 lead. The large lead is due to a solid serving streak from Madison Popielski, who recorded an ace. Geneseo maintained their lead, despite an eight point run from the Tigers. The Knights claimed the first set 25-22 with a kill from Cory Elder.
  • After a dominant first set for Geneseo, RIT came back in a big way. The set remained close, with the score sitting at 13-12 in favor of RIT. The Tigers took a handful of points, pushing their lead to 23-14. They ultimately took the set 25-17.
  • In the third set, RIT claimed the first three points. That was quickly followed by a quick Carolyn Mack serving run, claiming an ace. Alexandra Driesen went on a run of her own, recording two aces. Geneseo took the set 25-21 on a Madison Gamberg kill.
  • RIT was off to a fast start in the fourth set, taking a 9-2 lead. They rarely looked back as they went on several runs, until winning 25-18.
  • The fifth set was stress-inducing for both sides, as it was only to 15 points. At 8-5 in favor of RIT, the teams switched sides. RIT would continue to score, pushing the score to 11-5. Geneseo began a comeback shortly after, but their comeback hopes were crushed as the Tigers took the set 15-10, and the match 3-2.

QUICK FACTS
  • In the match, Julia Wallace recorded 10 kills, the highest for the team. The assists leader was Carolyn Mack with 24.
  • Wallace also claimed five blocks and Gamberg had three. Cecilia Dignan led the defense with 14 digs.
