Ice Knights Steamroll The Roos 4-1

Geneseo, N.Y.- The SUNY Geneseo men's hockey team cruised to a 4-1 victory over SUNY Canton Kangaroos on Saturday night. The Ice Knights moved to a perfect 4-0-0 on the season after a dominating out of conference performance.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Ice Knights struck first with 9:04 left in the first period. Geneseo defender Dakota Zarudny passed the puck across for Mitch Machlitt who blasted a one-timer into the back of net.
  • The Kangaroos got their revenge 4:28 into the second period on 2 on 1 breakaway conversion. The second period ended with a score of Geneseo 1, Canton 1.
  • Geneseo forward Alex Dameski tipped Diarmad DiMurro shot past the Kangaroo goaltender 12:39 into the third period. Peter Morgan was also awarded an assist in the play.
  • Ice Knight's freshman Luke Panchisin added to the score 13:37 in the third period. Tipped by Tyson Gilmour, Dakota Zarudny stole the puck in the Kangaroo's zone and passed it across to Panchisin for the goal.
  • Zach Rehbaum added an empty net goal in the last minute to make the final score Geneseo 4, Canton 1.
 
QUICK FACTS:
  • Jacob Torgner started in net for Geneseo. Torgner recorded 16 saves on 17 shots and earned his first career victory as an Ice Knights.
  • Geneseo held Canton to only 17 shots throughout the game. The Ice Knights totaled 52 shots with Zach Rehbaum and Carter Diceman leading the team with five shots each.  
  • Freshman forward Luke Panchisin has now scored in all four of his first four games for Geneseo. Panchisin now has five points in four games.
 
WHAT'S NEXT:
The Geneseo Ice Knights (4-0-0) will travel to take on SUNY Plattsburgh on Friday, November 10th at 7 P.M. This will be Geneseo's second SUNYAC contest of the year and their first on the road.
