Women's Basketball Earns 69-41 Win In Home Opener

GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's basketball team came away with a decisive victory over the visiting Elmira Soaring Eagles 69-41 on Tuesday night. The Knights home opening victory improved the team's record to 3-1 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Knights took a strong 10-5 lead early in the first quarter off of a layup by freshman forward Audrey Hintz. The Soaring Eagles were able to take the lead with 1:22 left in the first frame before a jumper by freshman forward Kristin Suydam and a layup from graduate guard Hannah Stockman gave Geneseo a three-point lead to end the first.
  • The Knights' offense remained hot as they went on a six-point run in the middle of the second quarter thanks to a layup from senior guard Kelly McLaughlin and jumpers from sophomore guard Maggie McGrane and senior forward Kerry Dennin. The defense only allowed six points all quarter as Geneseo went to halftime up 27-17.
  • Geneseo widened the margin in their favor again out of the break, as a late three pointer from Stockman gave the team a 20-point lead with ten minutes remaining in the game.
  • The three pointers kept coming for Geneseo as sophomore guard Eva Elliot, junior forward Brianna Beebe, and senior guard Brooke Woodard drained shots from deep to seal the team's 28-point victory.
