Men's Basketball Fends Off Late Push From Keuka For 56-43 Victory

GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo men's basketball team fought off a late comeback attempt from Keuka College on Tuesday night and collected a 56-43 victory in Schrader Gym. The win improves the Knights record to 3-2 and they remain a perfect 3-0 at home.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Both teams were locked in a defensive battle for the beginning of the first half, with the score tied at 7-7 over 11 minutes into the action. Sebastian Pacheco then provided a spark for the Knights offense, converting an and-one to make it a 10-7 advantage.
  • Geneseo used the spark from Pacheco to go up by as many as 17 points at 29-12, but a last second bucket from the Wolves cut the lead back to 15 going into halftime.
  • Keuka began to slowly chip away at the Knights lead in the second half, and ultimately got within two points at  43-41 at the six minute mark following a three-point shot and then a made free throw.
  • On the ensuing possession, Robert Pericolosi drained a mid-range jump shot to get it back to a two possession game, then the Knights defense stepped up and got back to back stops allowing four straight points from Pacheco to get the lead back to eight points at 49-41.
  • Geneseo's defense was dominant down the stretch, holding Keuka to just two points in the final six minutes to secure the 56-43 victory.

QUICK FACTS:
  • Josh Garelle led the team with 16 points, while Pacheco chipped in 13 and Cole Kattan 10.
  • Kattan also led the team in rebounds and assists with nine and four, respectively.
  • The Knights defense held Keuka to just 26.3 percent shooting from the field and 15.6 percent shooting from behind the arc.
