Men's Basketball Rallies In Second Half To Defeat Houghton

GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo men's basketball team defeated Houghton on Saturday, Nov. 18 by a score of 84-73 to get back to a .500 record on the season. The Knights improve to 2-2 while Houghton falls to 1-4.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Both teams traded baskets early on, with Geneseo scoring baskets by Justin Yearwood, Cole Kattan, and Sebastian Pacheco to keep the score at 10-9 in favor of the Highlanders.
  • Near the end of the first half, the Highlanders caught fire from behind the arc and started to pull away from the Knights. Leading by as many as eight points, Geneseo was able to get some momentum going into the break with a layup by Kattan in the final minute to make the score 41-36 at halftime.
  • Houghton made a couple shots early in the second half to get back up by eight points, but then the Knights moved into a press and thanks to defensive plays by Sebastian Pacheco and Michael Gentile, the Knights were able to take the lead and start to pull away.
  • With 5:08 remaining the Knights lead 75-68, and then the Knights defense held tough as they kept the Highlanders to just five more points to secure the 84-73 victory.

QUICK FACTS:
  • Pacheco led the Knights in scoring and rebounding, tallying 26 and eight, respectively.
  • Kattan, Gentile and Robert Pericolosi each added double-digit scoring by recording 17, 14, and 12, respectively.
  • Geneseo was dominant in the paint, putting up 34 points in the paint compared to just 14 from the Highlanders.
