GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo men's ice hockey team handed SUNY Cortland their first loss of the season after holding on for a 3-2 victory. The Ice Knights improved to 6-1-0 on the season and 3-1-0 in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) play, while the Red Dragons fall to 5-1-0 and 3-1-0
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Ice Knights came out if the gate ready to play. Geneseo took an early lead 58 seconds into the first period on a goal scored by Mitch Machlitt. Machlitt slapped home a one-timer on a pass from Cooper Fensterstock. Peter Morgan was also awarded an assist on the play.
- Geneseo added to their lead again at 6:20 into the first period. Alex Wilkins set up Alex Dameski to convert on a 2 on 1 breakout and the Ice Knights went up 2-0.
- Wilkins then made Geneseo's lead 3-0 with two minutes left in the first period. Sterling Wolters dumped the puck into the zone, Mitch Machlitt picked it up and passed the puck to Wilkins for the goal.
- Cortland scored on a power play at 18:07 in the second period. The Red Dragons also scored at 12:35 into the third period.
- The Ice Knights' defense remained resilient and held onto their early lead. The game finished with a final score of SUNY Geneseo 3, SUNY Cortland 2.
QUICK FACTS:
- Adam Harris started in net for the Ice Knights and recorded a game high 37 saves on 39 shots on goal.
- Alex Wilkins put on an all-around great performance for the Ice Knights. Wilkins recorded one goal, one assist, two blocked shots, and a plus/minus of positive 2.
- Sophomore forward Alex Dameski leads Geneseo in total points on the season. Dameski has four goals and four assists in six games. The Ice Knights forward added a goal to his season total during Friday night's contest.

SUNY Geneseo will travel to Oswego on Saturday, November 18
th at 7 p.m. to take on the SUNY Oswego Lakers. Saturday night is another chance for the Ice Knights to pick up an important conference victory.
