Women's Basketball Defeats William Smith, 73-56

GENEVA, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's basketball team traveled to William Smith and pulled out the win, 73-56, on Tuesday evening. The victory improves the Knights record to 2-1 early on in the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Knights came out hot on offense, scoring on their first four possessions with three pointers from Kiley Snow and Hannah Stockman. Freshman forward Audrey Hintz accounted for the other two buckets and Geneseo had an early 10-6 advantage.
  • Both offenses continued to excel throughout the first 10 minutes, and the score was tied at 21 at the conclusion of the first quarter.
  • Six points from Kelly McLaughlin in the second quarter helped the Knights take a four point lead into halftime at 34-30.
  • The Knights opened up the game in the third quarter, dominating on both ends of the ball. Offensively, five Knights were able to score to help them put up 17 in the period, while defensively they held the Herons to just 2-15 shooting from the field for 13.3 percent.
  • Geneseo didn't let off the gas in the fourth quarter, dropping 22 points to secure the 73-56 victory.

QUICK FACTS:
  • Hintz led the offensive effort with 19 points, while Kerry Dennin chipped in 13 of her own and McLaughlin added 10.
  • Maggie McGrane and Mackenzie Reigle dished out a team-high five assists each.
  • Defensively, Geneseo held William Smith to just 37 percent shooting from the field and won the turnover battle, 21-13.

WHAT'S NEXT?
The Knights will have some time off before returning to action for their home opener on Nov. 28 against Elmira at 5 p.m.
