Men's Basketball Falls Short Against Yeshiva

ONEONTA, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo men's basketball team dropped their second matchup of the Oneonta Classic to Yeshiva University on Sunday afternoon, 84-68. The Knights now sit with a 1-2 record early in the season.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Knights' fell to a nine point deficit with five minutes of action, but multiple three pointers and a layup by senior Michael Gentile along with another three put up by freshman Justin Yearwood brought them back within three halfway through the first frame.
  • Yearwood and fellow freshman Josh Garelle put together a nine-point scoring run to tie the game at 29 with less than five minutes left before halftime.
  • Geneseo scored seven consecutive points, concluding with a last-second fast break layup by Gentile, to take the lead and went into the break up 39-36.
  • Yeshiva's squad came out attacking once again as they went on scoring runs of eight, and later seven, unanswered points in the early stages of the second half. 
  • Down by 23 points with under two minutes left to play, the Knights' Yearwood, and freshmen Wallace Rahmaan, and Dennis Cargill lessened the deficit to 16 as they fell 84-68 to the Maccabees. 
QUICK FACTS
  • Gentile led the Knights with 15 points, while Garelle and Yearwood added another 14 and 13 in the game, as well. 
  • On top of scoring heavily, Gentile and Yearwood also had team-highs in steals with three.
  • Senior Cole Kattan and freshman Robert Perocolosi led the team in rebounds with eight.
  • The Knights finished the game with a 45.5% field goal percentage, and 40% three-point percentage.

The Knights will return home to take on Houghton University next Saturday, Nov. 18 at 4 p.m.
