Field Hockey Earns Road Win Over Oswego, 2-0

OSWEGO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo field hockey team got back in the win column on Saturday afternoon as they defeated Oswego, 2-0. The shutout victory improves the Knights record to 7-4 overall and 2-1 in SUNYAC play this season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Geneseo's offense came out firing in the first period as they put up seven shots compared to Oswego's three.
  • The Knights found the back of the net just after the 10-minute mark, as senior forward Katrina Clare gave the team an early lead off an assist from senior defender Olivia Hernick
  • Both offenses saw their shot totals decline in the second quarter, but Geneseo was still able to capitalize as Clare tallied her second goal of the game before the half.
  • Coming out of the half, and throughout the final two quarters, Geneseo continued to control play as they totaled 11 shots and held the Lakers to just two.
QUICK FACTS
  • Clare led the Knights with nine shots on-goal in the contest. Hernick and junior forward Emma Fon both also tallied multiple shots on-goal against Oswego.
  • Clare's goals brought her season total to eight and 26 for her collegiate career.
  • Sarah Quinlan and Lilly Spitz combined for the shutout win in goal.
WHAT'S NEXT
Geneseo will return home to face off against Houghton University on Tuesday, Oct. 10, for a 4 p.m. showdown at College Stadium.
