ONEONTA, N.Y. - The Geneseo women's volleyball team continued their winning streak on Friday, Oct. 6 at Oneonta. The Knights visited the Red Dragons and took care of them in four sets to improve their overall record to 7-8 with an undefeated 3-0 SUNYAC record.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Geneseo started the first set with a four-point scoring run, led by Cecilia Dignan, who was serving. The Knights continued to put the pressure on and refused to let Oneonta get close. Dignan served for set point, and Geneseo claimed the win after a Red Dragon attack error.
- The second set also began with an early Geneseo run. Madison Popielski led the charge and recorded an ace on her third serve. The Knights then gave up a five-point run, but refused to quit. The match was tied at 24 and then the Knights claimed the next two points to win the second set.
- The third set was back-and-forth the entire duration. Allie Driesen served an impressive eight points in a row, as the Knights fought to keep it close. The set was tied at 25, but the Red Dragons recorded two kills and kept the match alive with a third set win.
- Early in the fourth set, neither team was able to get a significant lead. Geneseo, who only needed one more set to win, decided to put it away. Two, five-point scoring runs pushed the score to 20-10, in favor of the Knights. Oneonta was unable to come back and Geneseo won the set 25-17, and won the match 3-1.
QUICK FACTS
- Linda Rossi led the Knights offense with 16 kills, a season high. Rossi also posted a double double with 11 digs.
- Allie Driesen amassed 25 assists, another season high.
- Dignan led the defensive effort with 22 digs.
WHAT'S NEXT
The Knights will be on the road again on Saturday, Oct. 7. They will be at New Paltz, looking to continue their undefeated conference run in their 2 p.m. matchup.
