Knights Defeat Nazareth 3-2 In An Electric Overtime

Geneseo, N.Y.- The SUNY Geneseo Ice Knights defeated Nazareth University 3-2 in the 2023-2024 home opener Friday night. Stefan Miklakos was the overtime hero for the Ice Knights, recording his first goal of the season when it mattered most.  
 
HOW IT HAPPENED-
  • Nazareth scored the first goal of the game halfway through the first period. The Golden Flyers would take a 1-0 lead in the locker room after the first period.
  • Graduate Student Tyson Gilmour bagged his first goal of the 2023-2024 season a minute and fifteen seconds into the second period. Gilmour redirected a shot from Stefan Miklakos into the back of the net and past the Nazareth goalie. Diarmad Dimurro also picked up an assist on the play.
  • At 18:44 in the second period, The Golden Flyers converted on a powerplay to regain the lead. Nazareth once again went into the locker room with a one goal advantage.
  • Ice Knights freshman Luke Panchisin tied up the game at 5:52 into the third period. Panchisin's wrist shot found the top right corner of the net, capitalizing on the Geneseo powerplay. Diarmad DiMurro and Peter Morgan recorded assists on the goal. The game remained tied through three periods, forcing overtime.  
  • Not even a minute into overtime, the Ice Knights found a game-winner. The Nazareth defensemen slipped on the play, and the puck was stolen by Tyson Gilmour. Gilmour glided into the Golden Flyer's zone and passed the puck across to Stefan Miklakos who buried it into the net. The game ended with a final score of Geneseo 3, Nazaeth 2.
QUICK FACTS-
  • Geneseo freshman forward Like Panchisin has opened his collegiate career with a goal in each of his first two games for the Ice Knights.
  • Adam Harris was the starting goaltender for the Ice Knights. Harris recorded a phenomenal 45 saves on 47 shots on target.
  • Ice Knights players: Diarmad DiMurro, Stefan Miklakos, and Tyson Gilmour all picked up two points during the game.
 
WHAT'S NEXT-
  • The Geneseo Ice Knights will host SUNY Brockport Friday, November 3rd at 7 p.m. at Ira Wilson Arena. This will be the first chance for the Knights to pick up a conference victory this season.
