Ice Knights Open The Season With A 4-1 Win

Aston, P.A.- The SUNY Geneseo Ice Knights start their season strong with an impressive 4-1 win over Neumann University. 

HOW IT HAPPENED-

  • Freshman Sean Melso came ready to play, scoring both Geneseo's and his first goal of the season at 6:30. He was assisted by Jared Thomas and Andrew Bruno.

  • The Knights capitalized on a hooking penalty on Neumann, scoring their second goal on the power play.  Senior Mitch Machlitt scored at the 16 minute mark with the help of Alex Dameski and Luke Panchisin.  

  • The Knights came out firing in the second period.  Geneseo freshman forward Luke Panchisin slots his first college goal at 7:58 after fighting his way back into the play.  After getting into Neumann's zone, Panchisin got a pass off to Dameski before being tripped up but managed to get back in it and scored after a perfect pass from Dameski. 

  • With two minutes left in the second, Geneseo senior Jared Thomas scored the teams fourth goal of the game. He was assisted by Zach Rehbaum and Alex Wilkins

  • After a scrappy third period, Neumann gets on the board during a power-play. Yancy Whitaker was assisted by Brady Mistler and Joe DiGiulio 

QUICK FACTS- 

  • Freshmen Sean Melso and Luke Panchisin scored their first career goal tonight. 

  • The Knights outshot Neumann 52-43. 

  • Junior goaltender Adam Harris recorded 23 saves, giving him a .929 SV%.

WHAT'S NEXT- 

Geneseo has their home opener tomorrow, October 28th, 2023. They face off against Nazareth, an opponent who they battled again in the preseason. Game starts at 7 P.M. at Ira S. Wilson Arena.
