BUFFALO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo men's swimming and diving team earned their second straight win to open up the 2023-24 season as they defeated Alfred St. 210-90 at Erie Community College on Saturday afternoon.
The Knights opened up the meet with a dominant performance in the 200 yard medley relay, as the team of
Ben Ludlow,
Brian Pabisch,
Jordan Nielsen, and
Jake Nielsen earned the win with a team of 1:35.17.
Alex Palmer kept the winning ways going for the Knights as he touched the wall first in the 1000 yard freestyle with a time of 10:29.35. In the 200 yard freestyle, Geneseo took the top four spots, but
Colin Babbitt led the way with a time of 1:48.88.
Ludlow earned his second victory of the meet in the 100 yard backstroke, posting a time of 53.45. Teammates
Griffin Merkling and
Gannon Moore took second and third, respectively. In the 100 yard breaststroke,
Jordan Nielsen led the way with a time of 1:00.36.
Jake Nielsen earned an impressive win in the 50 yard freestyle, posting a time of 21.44, over a second faster than the second place swimmer from Alfred St. In the 100 yard freestyle, it was
Jordan Nielsen returning to first place for the third time in the meet, recording a time of 47.52.
In the 200 yard backstroke, Ludlow picked up another win, touching the wall with a time of 1:57.95.
Connor Baird tallied another nine points and a first place finish for the Knights in the 200 yard breaststroke with a time of 2:17.86. Babbitt then returned to first place, this time in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 4:55.32. In the 400 yard IM, Geneseo took the top four spots once again as Ludlow took first place with a time of 4:21.19. The Knights capped off the meet with a first place finish in the 400 yard freestyle as the team of
Chris Varrichio,
Jordan Nielsen,
Casey Connors, and
Brian Pabisch recorded a time of 3:13.62.
In the dive events,
Trent Makowiec was the top finisher for Geneseo as he came in second in the one-meter dive with a score of 328.90, and then won the three meter dive with a score of 334.05.
Geneseo will return to the pool on Saturday, Oct. 28 as they take on Canisius at Erie Community College at 12 p.m.
