Garozzo's Second Hat Trick Leads Geneseo Past Canton, 7-0

CANTON, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo men's ice hockey team opened up 2023 with a dominant 7-0 win at SUNY Canton on Friday afternoon. Sophomore forward Domenic Garozzo led the Knights with a hat trick, improving Geneseo's record to 10-3-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Sophomore forward Peter Morgan put the Knights ahead early, scoring just under four minutes into the action with assists from Garozzo and freshman defender Dakota Zarudny.
  • Garozzo gave Geneseo a big momentum boost before heading to the second period, scoring twice in the final minute of the first period to make it a 3-0 advantage.
  • The Knights continued to put the pressure on the Roos, as Greg Koutsomitis and Mitch Machlitt both scored early in the second period. Later in the period, Machlitt netted his second-straight goal for a 6-0 lead, and then Garozzo capped off the scoring for the contest with his third goal of the game at just over five minutes left in the second period.

QUICK FACTS
  • Sophomore Adam Harris recorded a shutout in goal, tallying 19 saves for the Knights.
  • Stefan Miklakos and Zarudny tallied three assists each, while Morgan added two assists to go along with his goal.
