GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo men's ice hockey team couldn't complete the sweep of their SUNYAC weekend play, as they fell on Saturday night to Plattsburgh, 3-2. The loss dropped the Knights to 13-5-2 overall and 7-3-1 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Knights conceded the first goal of the game late in the first period, and then had a power play opportunity in the closing minutes that they were unable to tie the game up with. The Cardinals then quickly grabbed a goal following the power play, scoring with just over 30 seconds left in the period to make it 2-0.
- Geneseo wasted no time getting back into the game in the second period, as Bryan Zurowski deflected a shot past the Plattsburgh goalkeeper to make it 2-1.
- Two minutes after Zurowski's goal, Cannon Green scored his first career goal for the Knights on a breakaway to tie the game at 2-2.
- In a hotly contested and physical third period, the Cardinals were able to break the tie first with nine minutes left to play. Plattsburgh was able to hold onto the lead to secure the SUNYAC victory.
QUICK FACTS
- Green's goal marked his first career goal as a Knight, while Zurowski's goal was his first of the season.
- Dakota Zarudny's assist on Green's goal improved his team-high assist total to 15, while Morgan's assist improved his team-best point total to 23 with 11 goals and 12 assists.
- Senior goalkeeper Matt Petizian tallied 23 saves for the Knights.
