GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's volleyball team picked up its first win of the season against Medaille University on Wednesday night with a straight-set sweep, 25-11, 25-12, 25-17.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Knights set the tone in the opening set as junior outside hitter Linda Rossi had seven-consecutive serves putting the Knights up to an early 8-0 lead. Following the strong start, the Knights didn't allow any thoughts of a comeback from the Mavericks as they cruised to a 25-11 first-set win.
- Medaille rebounded in the second set and came out fighting as they only trailed by one point at 10-9. However, Geneseo rattled off nine of the next 10 points to take control of the set. The Knights went on to win 25-12 for a two-set advantage.
- Geneseo continued their momentum from the end of the second set as they jumped ahead 15-5 in the third set. The Mavericks were able to claw their way back into the match though and eventually cut the Knights lead to just five points at 22-17.
- Senior outside hitter Isabella Imbo stepped up for Geneseo in the final points, delivering a kill and an ace on back-to-back points to get the Knights to match point at 24-17, where they capitalized on a hitting error from Medaille to seal the victory.
