Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer Sneaks Past Fredonia, 1-0

GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo senior forward Lindsey Wright scored the game's lone goal as the Knights defeated visiting Fredonia, 1-0, in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) play on Wednesday night at College Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • In the 14th minute of play, the Knights cleared the ball off the back line to midfield where Lindsey Wright checked back to it and dropped it off to McKinley Skala on the left side. Skala sized up her defender and cut inside while Wright veered her run to the left. Timing the play perfectly, Skala found Wright with a through-ball pass and Wright buried a left-footed shot just inside the far post to give the Knights a 1-0 lead.
  • Geneseo had several other opportunities in the first half, outshooting the Blue Devils, 11-0, in the opening frame but could not add on to their total before the halftime break.
  • In the second half, the Knights continued the offensive pressure, putting up six more shots. The team's best chance to add an insurance goal came late in the second half when Nicole Bell earned a free kick just outside the box. Lindsey Matthews struck a free kick that bent just over the crossbar, nearly missing the top corner.
  • Angel Bennett made one save to preserve the clean sheet, the Knights' fourth-consecutive shutout and their fifth in six games.

QUICK FACTS
  • Wright tallied her fourth goal of the season, while Skala recorded her second assist of the year.
  • Bennett made one save as the Knights' defensive unit of Ashleigh Scheidweiler, Sarah Dunnigan, Julia Dell Aquila and Haylee Evertsen allowed just one shot throughout the entire game.
  • The Knights improved to 32-3-3 all-time against Fredonia, and have now won their last eight meetings with the Blue Devils.
