HOW IT HAPPENED
- Geneseo came out firing on all cylinders and took a quick 10-3 lead over the Hawks. New Paltz was able to fight back and cut the deficit to four points at 17-13, but a four-point run from the Knights with kills from junior outside hitter Linda Rossi, junior opposite Julia Wallace, and Borland put the set out of reach and Geneseo earned a 25-18 win.
- The Hawks quickly took away the first set momentum, jumping ahead 9-6 in the second frame. The Knights were able to regain the lead later in the set, after a kill from Rossi gave Geneseo an 18-15 lead. New Paltz responded with a run of their own, but the Knights went on to take a 23-21 lead. The Hawks held strong and were able to win five of the final six points to even the match at a set apiece.
- After the Hawks earned a 25-18 victory in the third set, Geneseo had to find a way to force a fifth and deciding set. Trailing 11-7, the Knights were able to rebound and find some momentum behind a solid offensive attack and take a 16-15 lead. Geneseo trailed 23-21 later in the set, but a kill and an ace from Rossi tied the score. However, the Hawks were able to pick up back-to-back points and escape with the 25-23 victory.
