Schoeps' Goal Leads Women's Soccer To 1-0 Victory At Plattsburgh

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's soccer team opened up SUNYAC action with a 1-0 victory at Plattsburgh behind a game-winning goal from junior midfielder Dana Schoeps in the 83rd minute.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Knights struggled to find opportunities to score in the first half, registering just two shots in the first half comapred to seven from the Cardinals. Sophomore midfielder Lindsey Matthews took a shot towards the bottom left corner in the 33rd minute and junior forward Juliette Frischmann recorded a shot on goal in the 38th minute, but both were saved by the Plattsburgh goalkeeper.
  • Geneseo found its rhythm offensively in the second half, tallying five shots on goal before scoring the eventual game-winner. Senior goalkeeper Angel Bennett and the Knights defense held strong throughout the 90 minutes, keeping the Cardinals off the board facing 12 shots and 4 corner kicks.
  • In the 83rd minute, Schoeps kept the pressure on the Plattsburgh defense and blocked a clear attempt from the Cardinals. The East Northport, N.Y. native ran to the loose ball in the box and one-timed a shot into the lower right corner for the game-winner.

  • The goal from Schoeps marked her first of the season and second in her career.
  • Bennett played all 90 minutes goal and totaled six saves for the shutout victory, her 10th career shutout.
