Field Hockey Holds Off Marywood, 2-0

SCRANTON, Pa. - SUNY Geneseo sophomore forward Emma Fon and first-year midfielder Sam Lewis each scored as the Knights shut out host Marywood, 2-0, on Saturday afternoon in Scranton. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Knights took the lead in the seventh minute of play when senior forward Maggie Phipps sent a pass to the back post where Sam Lewis swept it into the back of the cage, giving the Knights a 1-0 advantage. 
  • Geneseo held onto its slim lead despite outshooting the Pacers, 13-6, and earning six penalty corners while holding Marywood to just one. 
  • In the 50th minute, sophomore forward Emma Fon added onto the Knights' tally, providing an important insurance goal in the fourth quarter. 
  • Senior goalkeeper Sarah Quinlan and the Knights' defense held the Pacers scoreless to earn a third-consecutive shutout. 

QUICK FACTS 
  • Lewis scored her third goal of the season, while Phipps handed out her first assist of the year. 
  • Fon's tally marked her second goal of the year and the fifth of her career. 
  • Quinlan earned the shutout playing all 60 minutes while making three saves. It marks her second shutout of the season and the fifth of her career.

Geneseo (6-2) will host Medaille on Wednesday, Sept. 28 at 4:00 p.m. before returning to SUNYAC play in a showdown with Cortland on Saturday, Oct. 1.
