Box Score GENESEO, N.Y. – The SUNY Geneseo Field Hockey team exploded for 11 goals as the Knights defeated visiting Medaille, 11-0, on Wednesday evening at College Stadium.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Senior midfielder Cassidy Sturdevant opened the scoring, striking a shot from the top of the circle from a penalty corner to make it 1-0. Senior forward Maggie Phipps scored just over a minute later off a rebound to make it 2-0.
- Isabel Reitano-Stayer, Ada Roe, Sydney Carnival and Grace Olczak each added first-quarter tallies as the Knights took a 6-0 advantage into the second quarter.
- Sophomore forward Emma Fon added a goal just 39 seconds into the second period while Emily Cortese tallied her first collegiate score later in the frame. Carnival slapped in her second goal of the game as the Knights took a 9-0 lead into the halftime break.
- In the third quarter, McKenna Kelly tallied her first career collegiate goal to put the Knights ahead, 10-0. Ada Roe inserted a corner to Kelly at the top of the circle. Kelly fired a driven shot into the back of the cage for the score.
- Sarah Quinlan and Lilly Spitz split time in goal for the Knights, combining for the shutout victory.
QUICK FACTS
- The Knights tallied 11 goals, the most goals scored in a single game since September 25, 2019 when Geneseo defeated visiting Wells, 12-0.
- Senior forward Sydney Carnival finished with a team-high five points, tallying two goals with one assist while first-year midfielder Sam Lewis dished two assists, bringing her team-leading season total to six.
- Ada Roe and McKenna Kelly each finished with a goal and an assist as 16 Knights recorded at least one point in the contest.
- Sarah Quinlan earned the goalkeeping win with two saves in the first half while Lilly Spitz did not face a shot on goal in the second half between the pipes.
