Women's Volleyball Sweeps Oneonta To Open SUNYAC Action

GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's volleyball team earned for their fourth-straight win Friday evening with a sweep of Oneonta. The Knights got their first SUNYAC win of the year with scores of 25-16, 25-16, 25-15.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Knights and Red Dragons went back and forth on runs in the opening set, but ended up tied 12-12 halfway through the set. Geneseo went on to take full control of the set after winning five-straight points. They closed out the opening frame by winning 13 of 17 points for a 25-16 victory. 

  • In the second set, neither team was able to string together more than four-straight points, but the Knights continued to slowly build on their lead and took a 13-7 advantage midway through the set. Geneseo got back-to-back blocks to seal the second set win.

  • The Knights saw the opportunity to sweep the match and ran with it, as they took a 14-9 lead. Oneonta battled back and cut the deficit to two points, but the Knights were propelled to victory with three-straight service aces from Madison Popielski to make it a 21-13 advantage. Popielski then closed out the match with a back-row kill at 24-15.
     

QUICK FACTS

  • Junior outside hitter Linda Rossi led the team with eight kills, with senior Isabella Imbo and junior Julia Wallace right behind, tallying seven and six, respectively. 

  • Senior libero Emily Haber dominated on the defensive side of the ball, leading the Knights with 23 digs.

  • Sophomore Allie Driesen and first-year Carolyn Mack recorded 17 and 13 assists, respectively.

Geneseo will host their senior day tomorrow, Saturday, September 24, against New Paltz at 1 p.m.
