Field Hockey Opens Conference Play With Victory at Morrisville

 MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo junior forward Katrina Clare scored twice as the Knights opened their conference schedule with a 6-0 victory over host Morrisville on Friday afternoon.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Geneseo opened the scoring just over 90 seconds into the game when first-year midfielder Isabel Reitano-Stayer fired a shot in on the pads of the goalkeeper and junior forward Katrina Clare fired the rebound into the back of the cage.
  • Hanna Pochobradsky added a tally just over five minutes later, tipping a shot from junior midfielder Darby Matthews to redirect it past the keeper. Clare scored her second of the game before the end of the frame to give the Knights a 3-0 lead heading into the second quarter.
  • In the second frame, first-year midfielder Shannon Cunningham added to the Knights advantage, making it 4-0 with just under nine minutes to play in the quarter.
  • In the third, senior forward Maggie Phipps finished off a loose ball in front of the net to increase the Geneseo lead to 5-0. Reitano-Stayer added a goal in the five three minutes to make it 6-0.
 
QUICK FACTS
  • Isabel Reitano-Stayer tallied her team-high fifth goal of the season while Phipps scored her fourth of the year.
  • Katrina Clare netted her third and fourth goal of the season, recording her second-career multi-goal game.
  • Hanna Pochobradsky and Shannon Cunningham each scored their first career collegiate goal, while Matthews and Reitano-Stayer each earned a pair of assists.
  • Sarah Quinlan and Lily Spitz split time in net, but neither faced a shot on goal as the Knights' defense held Morrisville at bay.
