Field Hockey Blanks Golden Flyers, 5-0

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo Field Hockey team earned a 5-0 shutout of host Nazareth on Wednesday evening in Rochester. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Knights and Golden Flyers played through a scoreless first quarter despite Geneseo outshooting Nazareth, 12-0, in the opening frame. 
  • Senior forward Maggie Phipps opened the scoring just over 90 seconds into the second quarter. Isabel Reitano-Stayer and Ada Roe each added a tally before halftime as the Knights took a 3-0 lead into the break. 
  • In the third quarter, Allie Ball and Jenna Piotrowski each added insurance goals as the Knights cruised through a scoreless fourth period to a 5-0 victory. 

QUICK FACTS 
  • Isabel Reitano-Stayer scored her team-high fourth goal of the season while Phipps tallied her third of the year. Roe, Ball and Piotrowski each tallied their first goal of the campaign.
  • First-year midfielder Sam Lewis finished with two assists, bring her season total to a squad-best four assists. Grace Olczak added an assist as well.
  • Sarah Quinlan earned a shutout in goal while the Knights' defense allowed just one shot that missed its target. 
  • The Knights outshot the Golden Flyers, 40-1, including 34 shots on goal, and earned 22 penalty corners without conceding any.

Geneseo (4-2) will begin State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) play on Friday, Sept. 23 when they travel to face Morrisville at 3:00 p.m.
