Men's Soccer Cruises To 6-1 Victory At Elmira

ELMIRA, N.Y. -  The SUNY Geneseo men's soccer team earned a dominant victory on Friday afternoon at Elmira, as they topped the Soaring Eagles, 6-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Knights wasted no time taking the lead, scoring in just the sixth minute of play off a penalty kick goal from senior forward Tyler Lewandowski.
  • Lewandowski and Geneseo went on to add another goal in the first half with senior forward Matt Volz assisting Lewandowski in the 37th minute, and the Knights took a two-goal lead into halftime.
  • The Knights stayed aggressive early in the second half, scoring twice in the first ten minutes. Sophomore midfielder Stefen Nikolic notched the first goal and then assisted on the second to senior midfielder Liam Mulderig.
  • Leading 4-0, Mulderig recorded his second goal of the game and then first-year forward Tyler Axelsen netted his first career goal to close out the scoring and seal the 6-1 win.

QUICK FACTS
  • Geneseo last scored six goals in 2019, when they traveled to New Paltz and earned a 6-2 victory on Oct. 18.
  • The Knights out shot Elmira 19-6, including 11 shots on goal compared to three from the hosts.
  • Geneseo has now won five-straight games after dropping their season opener.

The Knights won't get much rest before returning to action as they host Hilbert tomorrow, Saturday, September 17 at 4 p.m. at College Stadium.
