Women's Soccer Comes Up Short Against No. 6 William Smith

GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's soccer team battled No. 6 William Smith on Wednesday evening at College Stadium and couldn't pull out the win as they fell 1-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Herons came out firing to open the game, but the Knights defense stood strong and limited the scoring opportunities. William Smith only tallied six shots with two reaching target, but senior goalkeeper Angel Bennett turned them away to send the game to halftime at 0-0.
  • Early in the second half, Geneseo saw their first chance at getting on the board as graduate midfielder Hannah Sullivan was able to line up a shot from just outside the box. The Herons goalkeeper was able to quickly react and make the save to keep the score tied.
  • William Smith eventually broke through in the 72nd minute after a well-placed through ball and cross. The Knights offense made multiple attempts to find some momentum and score the equalizer, but the Herons defense held strong.

QUICK FACTS
  • Bennet made five saves in goal for the Knights, while Sullivan, Lindsay Wright, and Liv Raucci each registed a shot.
  • Geneseo was out-shot 13-3 in the game, and tallied one corner kick compared to four from the Herons.

WHAT'S NEXT
The Knights return to College Stadium on Saturday, September 17 for a 1 p.m. kickoff against Hilbert.
