GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo senior forward
Maggie Phipps scored a pair of goals as the Knights poured on a season-high six goals to defeat visiting St. John Fisher, 6-2, on Wednesday afternoon at College Stadium.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Geneseo opened the scoring in the first few minutes, capitalizing in transition. First-year midfielder Sam Lewis fired a shot in towards the cage where junior forward Grace Olczak redirected it past the keeper into the corner of the goal, putting the Knights ahead 1-0.
- St. John Fisher evened the score, 1-1, in the first quarter but the Knights regained the lead in the second period. Senior forward Maggie Phipps finished off a 3-on-2 break, swatting a pass out of the air and in for a 2-1 lead. She added her second goal of the day later in the frame, pulling a loose ball out of a scrum and burying it to make it 3-1. Fisher answered with a goal before the halftime break but the Knights led, 3-2, heading into the third quarter.
- In the third, junior forward Katrina Clare earned a stroke and Darby Matthews buried it to make it 4-2.
- Lewis and Clare each added fourth-quarter goals to extend the Knights' lead as they earned the 6-2 victory.
