GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's volleyball team had its comeback attempt against the Univeristy of Rochester fall short on Tuesday evening. The Knights dropped the four-set match with scores of 25-17, 25-20, 22-25, 25-22.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Knights and Yellowjackets traded runs in the opening set, with the Knights winning four-straight points to go up 14-12 halfway through the set. However, Rochester answered back by winning 11 of the next 12 points to go up 23-15 and eventually win the opening frame.
- Trailing 13-12 in the second set, Geneseo fell victim to another big run from the Yellowjackets. Late in the set, the Knights battled back and won six of eight points to cut the lead to 24-20. Rochester went on to close out the set with a kill and go up two sets to none.
- The Knights ended up three points away from getting swept in the third set as they were down 22-16, but with the crowd at their backs they were able to rally back. With senior outside hitter Isabella Imbo at the service line, Geneseo won nine-straight points to take the third set 25-22. Imbo recorded two aces and two kills during the run, while junior outside hitter Linda Rossi tallied three kills.
- The Knights couldn't keep the momentum going to start the fourth set and ended up facing a double-digit deficit at 20-10. Once again, Geneseo found a way to fight back and rallied six-straight points with Imbo serving. The Knights went on to cut the lead to as little as two points at 24-22, but couldn't complete the comeback and fell in four sets.
