GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo field hockey team couldn't pull out a close game against Skidmore on Sunday afternoon, as they fell 3-2 in overtime.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Knights got on the board first, with first-year midfielder Sam Lewis knocking in a rebound off a shot from fellow first-year Shannon Cunningham with under five minutes left to play in the first period. Skidmore was able to bounce back in the second quarter with a goal of their own and the teams entered halftime tied at 1-1.
• Following a scoreless third quarter, Geneseo took the lead back as junior forward Grace Olczak deflected in a pass from fellow junior Katrina Clare early in the fourth quarter.
• After pulling their goalkeeper, the Thoroughbreds were able to tie the game up with just 32 seconds left in the game.
• The Knights dominated most of the overtime period, recording the first five shots and three penalty corners. However, Skidmore capitalized when they had the chance and scored the game-winner with 29 seconds on the clock.

QUICK FACTS

• The goal from Lewis marked the first of her career, while Olczak notched her second of the season and Clare tallied her second assist.
• The game marked the second-straight between the two teams that went to extra time, with the Thoroughbreds pulling out a win on penalty strokes last year. The Knights won the matchup in 2019, 4-1.
