GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo senior forward
Tyler Lewandowski tallied both of the Knights' goals to earn a 2-1 victory over visiting Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) on Saturday afternoon at College Stadium.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Geneseo took the lead in the 26th minute, pulling ahead, 1-0. Sophomore defender Liam Mulholland earned possession with a stout tackle on the right flank and fed senior midfielder Jusin Arilotta in the middle of the field. Arilotta played an incisive through-ball ahead to Lewandowski who played a stellar first touch between two defenders, setting himself up for a clear shot that beat the keeper.
- In the second half, Lewandowski struck again, this time collecting a failed clearance and blasting a left-footed shot to the far post to make it 2-0 with 26 minutes to play.
- RIT nearly scored just moments later on a half-volley from 25 yards out, but senior goalkeeper Will Price made a diving save to parry it away.
- In the 85th minute, Geneseo was whistled for a foul in the box and RIT converted the ensuing penalty to cut the lead in half, but the Knights wound out the remaining clock to earn the win.
