Men's Soccer Falls In Season Opener To St. Lawrence, 2-0

GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo men's soccer team dropped the season opener on Thursday evening at College Stadium, falling to visiting St. Lawrence, 2-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Neither team could find the back of the net during a chippy first period of action, but the Knights out shot the Saints, 4-3.
  • Midway through the second half, St. Lawrence took a 1-0 lead off a goal from a set piece, and seven minutes they added their second goal after a pass ricocheted off sophomore goalkeeper Vincent Maronski Jr. and bounced in front of the net for the Saints.
  • The Knights tallied 11 shots in the second half, compared to just two from St. Lawrence, but they were unable to capitalize and dropped the home opener.

QUICK FACTS
  • Senior Liam Mulderig led the Geneseo offensive effort with a team-high four shots, while James Perrone and Tyler Lewandowski each tallied three.
  • The Knights are now 4-3 in their last seven season openers, with their last win coming in 2019 in the season and home opener against St. John Fisher.

WHAT'S NEXT
Geneseo will return to College Stadium on Saturday, Sep. 3 as they play host to St. John Fisher at 1:00 p.m.
