Men's Soccer Holds Off St. John Fisher For Victory Behind Perrone's Goal

GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo graduate forward James Perrone scored his first goal since the 2019 campaign to lead the Knights to a 1-0 victory over visiting St. John Fisher on Saturday afternoon at College Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Geneseo laid claim to an advantage in the first half shot count, outshooting St. John Fisher, 7-2, through the first period.
  • In the 24th minute, senior midfielder Justin Arilotta found a seam in the Cardinals with an incisive pass forward up the middle. Perrone beat his defender and won the footrace to the ball, beating the keeper with a toe-poked shot that found the net to make it 1-0.
  • The Knights defense held St. John Fisher to just one shot on goal throughout the game. Senior goalkeeper Will Price turned away the only shot he faced to preserve the clean sheet and give Geneseo the win.

QUICK FACTS

  • After missing the 2021 season with an injury, Perrone scored his first goal since October 29, 2019. Perrone finished the 2019 campaign with four goals.
  • Sophomore midfielder Stefen Nikolic recorded two shots on goal and first-year forward Dylan Thody added an on-goal attempt as the Knights outshot the Cardinals, 11-4.
  • The Knights earned their seventh win in their previous eight meetings with the Cardinals, avenging last season's campaign-opening defeat in Pittsford.

WHAT'S NEXT?

Geneseo (1-1-0) will travel to Houghton on Tuesday to face the Highlanders at 6:00 p.m.
