Men's Ice Hockey Holds Off Brockport In SUNYAC Semifinals, 3-1

GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo senior forward Dan Bosio netted a pair of goals and junior goaltender Matt Petizian made 17 saves as the Knights held off Brockport, 3-1, in the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Semifinal round on Wednesday night at Ira S. Wilson Arena. The top-seeded Knights will host second seed Oswego in the SUNYAC Championship on Saturday, Mar. 5 at 7:00 p.m.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Knights and Golden Eagles skated through a scoreless first period, despite Geneseo outshooting Brockport, 8-7. 
  • First-year forward Domenic Garozzo broke open the scoring with goal with 8:34 to play in the second period, burying a diving backhand off assists from first-year Peter Morgan and junior Bryan Zurowski
  • Just under five minutes later, Bosio struck for his first of the game. Senior defenseman Chris Perna skated through multiple defenders to set up Bosio in the slot for the power play score, making it 2-0 late in the second period. 
  • Brockport tallied midway through the third period, cutting the Knights' lead in half with 10:51 to play, but Bosio scored an empty-net goal late in the game to seal the victory.

QUICK FACTS 

  • Bosio tallied his fifth multi-goal game of the season and has scored five goals in his last three games combined. 
  • The Knights 2-for-3 on the power play, scoring their 28th and 29th power play goal of the season. 
  • The Knights advance to their fourth-straight SUNYAC Championship game after taking home the title in 2018, 2019 and 2020.

The Knights (21-3-1) will advance to the SUNYAC Championship on Saturday, March 5 at 7:00 p.m. Geneseo will host Oswego in a rematch of the 2020 championship game.
