POTSDAM, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo men's basketball team couldn't recover from a slow start on Saturday afternoon at Potsdam as their second half comeback attempt fell short. The 80-72 loss dropped the Knights to 10-12 overall and 8-8 in SUNYAC play.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Six minutes into the game Genseo found themselves trailing by 11 points at 16-5, but following a timeout senior forward Michael Gannon made a layup and then sophomore guard Ethan St. Lucia drained a three-point shot to make it a six-point game.
• The Knights couldn't keep their offensive momentum going and entered halftime facing a 19-point deficit at 48-29.
• Geneseo was still trailing by 19 points with 12 minutes left in the game, but quickly went on a run to cut into the Bears lead. Another three from St. Lucia cut the Potsdam advantage to just 10 points at the six-minute mark, and then a three from graduate guard Terrance Nichols made it a seven-point game with four minutes left.
• The Knights were unable to cut the Potsdam lead to one-possession in the closing minutes and eventually fell 80-72.

QUICK FACTS

• Gannon led the team in the scoring with 21 points, while St. Lucia chipped in 14 points off the bench.
• Despite the loss, Geneseo still holds the sixth and final playoff spot in the SUNYAC standings with half-game advantage over Cortland, who the Knights will play in the final game of the regular season.
