Women's Basketball Locks Up Buffalo State, 61-46

GENESEO, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo senior guard Hannah Stockman scored a game-high 13 points as the Knights took down visiting Buffalo State, 61-46, in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) action at Schrader Gymnasium on Friday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Geneseo opened up an 8-0 lead to begin the game as Stockman finished a layup and drilled a three-pointer to push the Knights out in front.
  • Buffalo State responded with an 11-2 run to take the lead with 3:54 to play in the first quarter but the Knights closed out the period with back-to-back buckets in the paint to take a 14-11 lead into the second period.
  • The Knights led by as many as nine points in the second quarter as first-year guard Maggie McGrane drained a mid-range jumper to make it 26-17 with 2:04 to play in the half, but the Bengals battled back to within five points, 26-21, at halftime.
  • Geneseo pulled away in the third quarter, shooting 11-for-15 (73.3%) from the floor in the period to outscore the Bengals, 25-13, and take a 51-34 lead heading into the fourth quarter as eight different Knights scored in the period.
  • Buffalo State opened the fourth quarter with a 10-2 run to cut the lead down to single-digits with 5:50 remaining, but it was the close as the Knights would allow the Bengals. After Kerry Dennin finished a layup, Stockman created a steal and finished a transition layup to swing the momentum and put the Knights out of reach with 3:51 to go.

  • Stockman shot 5-for-8 from the floor, including 3-for-4 from beyond the arc to lead the Knights with 13 points and added a game-high five steals.
  • Kerry Dennin pulled down 13 rebounds and added eight points while Kelly McLaughlin tied a season-high with eight points and added four steals.
  • Geneseo outrebounded Buffalo State, 49-30, including a season-high 18 offensive rebounds, and hassled the Bengals into 22 turnovers.
