BUFFALO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo sophomore forward
Domenic Garozzo netted the game-winning goal in the third period as the Knights overcame a first period deficit to defeat host Buffalo State, 3-2, in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) play on Friday night in Buffalo.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Geneseo opened the scoring just 3:22 into the contest when Jared Thomas finished off his second goal of the season to put the Knights ahead, 1-0.
- Buffalo State tied the game with just under five minutes remaining in the first period and took the lead before the end of the frame on a power play goal, putting the Knights behind, 2-1, at the first intermission.
- In the second period, Geneseo leveled the score when Peter Morgan converted a power play goal just 55 seconds into the period. Garozzo and first-year defenseman Dakota Zarudny each earned assists on the play.
- Midway through the third period, the Knights' special teams struck again as Garozzo scored on the power play to take the lead with 10:46 to go.
- Senior goalkeeper Matt Petizian made 23 saves, including eight in the third period to keep the Knights on top and earn the win.
