Matt Petizian finished with 27 saves to post a shutout as the Knights blanked State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) rival Fredonia, 4-0, on Saturday night at Ira S. Wilson Arena.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Geneseo and Fredonia skated through a scoreless first period despite the Knights outshooting the Blue Devils, 17-8. Geneseo had two power play opportunities but could not convert on either.
- In the second period, senior defenseman Matthew Doran released sophomore forward Peter Morgan with a long pass into the offensive zone. Morgan snapped off a wrister, beating the goalkeeper to put the Knights ahead, 1-0, just 1:01 into the frame.
- The Knights' power play came alive in the third period as Alex Dameski netted a goal on the man-advantage just 3:04 into the period to make it 2-0.
- Tyson Gilmour added a goal midway through the period to make it 3-0. Stefan Miklakos fired a shot toward the goal when Gilmour redirected it over the goalie's shoulder for a score.
- Fredonia had its best scoring chance on a 5-on-3 power play but the Knights' penalty kill burned off the clock, as Petizian held on to the shutout in net.
- Late in the game, Nicolas Elia added a power play goal to make it 4-0. Gilmour received the puck at the blue line, feigned a shot and slid a quick pass to Elia on the right side for a one-time slap shot that beat the Fredonia goalie.
