GENEVA, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo junior forward
Kerry Dennin scored a career-high 21 points and added 11 rebounds to lead the Knights past William Smith, 56-39, on Saturday afternoon at Bristol Gymnasium.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Knights opened the game on a 13-2 streak as Dennin scored seven points to trigger the run. William Smith responded with a 9-0 run but sophomore guard Mackenzie Reigle hit a three before the end of the quarter to give the Knights a 16-11 lead entering the second quarter.
- The two teams traded baskets to open the second period but the Knights took off on an 8-0 run to earn a 28-15 lead with 4:05 to play. Dennin drilled a mid-range jumper with 15 seconds to play in the half and then created a steal for a breakaway layup as time expired to give Geneseo a 36-19 advantage at the half.
- The Herons opened the second half with back-to-back buckets but the Knights kept them at bay for most of the frame. Despite shooting just 2-for-14 from the floor in the third quarter, Geneseo held onto a 13-point lead,
- William Smith cut the lead to 10 points with 5:14 remaining in the fourth quarter but the Knights retaliated with an 8-0 run on four-consecutive layups to take a 56-38 lead with 1:15 to play, sealing the win.
QUICK FACTS
- In addition to Dennin's double-double, Lauren Romito added 17 points and 19 rebounds for a double-double, becoming the first Geneseo teammates to each record a double-double this season.
- Kiley Snow added nine points while Mackenzie Reigle scored seven points and added four assists.
- Geneseo held William Smith to just 15-for-52 (28.8%) shooting from the floor, remaining unbeaten when holding opponents under 35.0% shooting from the floor.

The Knights improve to 6-2 with their fourth-straight victory and will head into the holiday break. Geneseo will return to action on December 29 against Sage in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico at 9:00 a.m. EST.
