Box Score Guaynabo, Puerto Rico - The SUNY Geneseo women's basketball team came up short in the opening game of their trip to Puerto Rico, as they fell to Hardin-Simmons 60-52.

The Knights came out strong, shooting 50 percent from the field in the first quarter and taking a 12-7 lead. However, Hardin-Simmons bounced back in the second quarter and was able to take a four-point lead into halftime. Geneseo dropped the third quarter by just one point, and then couldn't close the gap in the final 10 minutes as they were out scored 20-17 in the fourth quarter.

"I am thrilled with the amount of heart and mental toughness we showed today," said head coach Alyssa Polosky. "Having not played in almost 3 weeks, it was expected that we would shake off some rust, but I never saw that side of us. We picked up where we left off, which is encouraging moving forward. Today's effort makes me very excited for this group and I look forward to watching them continue to grow."

Senior forward Lauren Romito led Geneseo with 12 points and eight rebounds. Kerry Dennin matched her rebound total with eight and chipped in seven points. Five other players scored in the contest for the Knights: Taylor Hansen (9), Kiley Snow (8), Hannah Stockman (6), Kelly McLaughlin (6), and Mackenzie Reigle (4).

The Knights return to the court in Puerto Rico tomorrow at 10 a.m. to take on Mount Holyoke.
